Employee's leg injured when struck by steel coil

On July 30, 2002, Employee #1 was standing steel coils upright on edge to band them. As he was working, one of the coils began to tip over. Employee #1 attempted to get out of the way but tripped, and the coil struck his left leg. He sustained severe tissue damage and a fracture to his lower left leg. At the time this report was written, it was not clear if his leg cold be saved or whether it would have to be amputated. The steel coils were not secured.
