Employee Injured When Struck by Forks of Forklift

Employee #1 was operating a sit-down rider forklift. He used the forks of the forklift to raise a set of railcar wheels for some repair work. He dismounted the forklift with the forks raised and began his work on the railcar wheels. The wheels were not installed on a railcar at the time. The railcar wheels slipped and the forks sprung upwards and struck Employee #1 in the face. Employee #1 sustained head fractures and was hospitalized.
