Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 200642445
Event: 04/29/2002
EMPLOYEE RUN OVER BY AERIAL LIFT TRUCK

A 15-employee power line construction crew met in a rural county road area to coordinate continued repairs on storm-damaged power lines. The crew mechanic, who was in a truck parked nearby, noticed smoke coming from beneath an aerial lift truck. The operator of the aerial lift left his truck with the engine running to discuss line repair operations with other crewmembers. The crew mechanic got out of his vehicle and crawled under the aerial lift to investigate the cause of the smoke. The aerial lift operator, who was not aware that the mechanic was under his truck, got back in and drove off, running over the mechanic. The mechanic died of injuries sustained in the accident.
