Five Employees Have Heat Burns From Explosion

On August 10, 2001, five employees were involved in an explosion during the morning shift while the plant was undergoing normal ice manufacturing processes. At the time of the explosion, Employees #1 and #2 had been working on the ventilation system on the roof but came down off of the roof due to some out of the ordinary sounds they had heard. Employee #1 was switching the power off to some equipment, and Employee #2 was on the grand floor observing employee #1. Employee #3 was at work in the warehouse when the explosion occurred. Employee #4 was entering the large, ice storage room in anticipation of moving around pallets of bagged ice using a forklift. Employee #5 worked for another company. He was at work at his shipping and receiving desk. Employees #1 and #2 received burns and were hospitalized. Employees #3 had lacerations and was not hospitalized. Employee #4 had minor burns and was not hospitalized. Employee #5 had sprains and was not hospitalized.
