Investigation Summary

At approximately 9:07 a.m. on January 6, 2001, crews of seven workers were manually raising an east exterior wall which measured approximately 51 ft by 12 ft for a residential building. The crew was spread out from north to south along the east exterior wall and all together they raised the wall. Employee #1 and another worker were on the north end of the wall. They experienced difficulty raising their side of the wall because about three fourths of the way up they encountered the north exterior wall blocking them. Someone needed to remove the 2-in. by 4-in. board that was bracing up the north exterior wall. Employee #1 told the other worker that he would hold the wall so he could remove the brace. The other worker let go and before long Employee #1 yelled out that he could no longer hold the wall up. As soon as the other worker grabbed the wall, Employee #1 fell to the ground. Employee #1 was hospitalized with a possible compressed back injury.
