Accident Investigation Summary
Summary Nr: 200690444 | Event: 05/12/2001 | Employee Decapitated By Hanging Wire
Employee #1 was alone operating a John Deere tractor with a harrowing attachment in an open tobacco field. Apparently, as he was exiting the field between two posts where the tobacco cloth was secured, a section of loose wire caught him under the neck and decapitated him. The tractor continued to operate with his body slumped over in the seat. The tractor made two circles, traveled into an adjacent field, and then returned to the field where the accident occurred. The tractor finally stalled out from the entanglement of the tobacco cloth and wire on the front tires of the tractor.
