Employee's finger amputated in rotating gears of a machine

Employee #1 was performing normal clean up duties at card machine Number 3 when his air line hose became entangled in the drive sprocket gears for the doffer drum. He attempted to free the hose with his left hand and it was pulled into the gears. He was hospitalized and surgical amputation of his left index finger was required. The equipment was guarded from the sides and top, but not from underneath.
