Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 171059785
Event: 09/12/2000
Employee injured in fall from ceiling crawl space

Employee #1 was in the crawl space between the ceiling and the roof of the ballroom in the new Salt Palace expansion, tying down recessed light fixtures. He was using a full body harness with a single lanyard for fall protection. Employee #1 unhooked his lanyard to move to the next light fixture when he slipped on the metal stud on which he'd been standing. He came down on sheetrock instead of the steel grid and fell 30 ft through the sheetrock to the floor. He sustained injuries that required hospitalization.
