Employee Amputates Hand While Demonstrating Blind Cut

At approximately 11:15 a.m. on October 25, 2000, an employee, a shop teacher was demonstrating a "blind cut" or dado for students on a narrow piece of approximately 0.75 inch material, approximately 2 inches wide by 19 inches long. The hood guarding or kick back devices were not used nor was other suitable guarding to include but not limited to featherboards, jigs or other such devices. The employee lacerated his left hand and later required amputation. The tool employee used was not provided in the original narrative.
