Employee drowns in lagoon of hog waste

At approximately 7:30 p.m. on December 1, 1999, Employee #1 was driving a tank truck of hog farm effluent waste to a transfer station lagoon. The pumps of the hog farm's effluent transfer system had broken the day before, and the farm had contracted a local trucking firm to transport the waste by tank truck. Employee #1 had hauled about 25 loads that day but, in the dark, overshot the backup stops. His truck went over the edge and slid into the lagoon filled with hog waste. Employee #1 drowned.
