Employee burned when metal drum explodes during cutting

Employee #1 was engaged in his normal duties of cleaning up the shop and needed a container for scrap metal He was using a plasma torch to cut off the top of a 55 gallon metal drum when the drum exploded. Employee #1 sustained second- and third-degree burns over 40 percent of his body. The drum had originally been used to hold toluene.
