Three employees injured when thrown from rising container

At about 7:30 a.m., Employees #1, #2, and #3, who were all longshoremen, were working on the M/V Hudson cargo vessel. The three were standing on top of a connex container measuring 8.5 in. high and 20 ft. long, as the container was being lifted. The container was unexpectedly let loose from its lashing/locking device and sprang upward about 4 ft. Employees #1, #2, and #3 were thrown from the top of the container. They fell about 10 ft. onto the weather deck of the vessel. Each employee suffered multiple injuries in the form of abrasions, contusions and fractures. Employee #1 was hospitalized for leg fractures; Employee #2 was hospitalized for hip fractures; and, Employee #3 was hospitalized for fractures to his chest.
