Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 171058894
Event: 03/17/2000
Employee's leg injured when caught in chain conveyor

Employee #1 was shoveling waste bark that had fallen from a debarker onto a chain conveyor. The chain conveyor periodically jumped from its track as it was going down from the spool because of the speed difference between the take-up and in-feed spools. Employee #1 was showing the problem to a coworker by pointing with his foot when the conveyor jumped and his foot became caught under the take-up spool. His leg became caught and was pulled into the conveyor before it could be stopped. He sustained injuries that required hospitalization.
