Employee's Finger Caught in Conveyor, Suffers Amputation

Employee #1 sustained an amputation of his ring finger tip while picking up a 10-pound box of Belgian endive from the no-friction plastic conveyor belt. While picking up the box, Employee #1's right hand was pressed against a metal finger on a flat metal table adjacent to the conveyor by the pressure of oncoming boxes on the conveyor belt. Employee #1's fingertip was severely lacerated, and the tip could not be reattached. Employee #1 was treated and released from the hospital emergency room in less than 24 hours.
