Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 201350642
Event: 01/10/1999
Employee Killed After Being Struck By A Vehicle

On December 20, 1998, Employee #1 was killed after being struck by a vehicle. Employee #1 parked a vehicle in lane number two of the rental lot so he could add gas to the vehicle. He exited the vehicle. At the same time, another employee was attempting to park her vehicle behind Employee #1's vehicle. As she was parking, her vehicle struck another parked vehicle that was parked in lane number one. She apparently panicked, and her foot accidentally depressed the gas pedal rather than the brake pedal. Her vehicle then struck Employee #1's vehicle, causing his vehicle to hit him. Her vehicle also struck other parked vehicles until it finally came to a complete stop. Employee #1 sustained two broken legs, fractured ribs, and internal injuries. He was taken to a local hospital where he died on January 10, 1999, from complications related to his injuries.
