Employee burned when splashed by hot tar

At approximately 3:00 p.m. on April 16, 1999, Employee #1 was working as a kettleman and helper for Kelly Roofing, Inc. The crew was roofing a small surface at a construction site. He had already hoisted several buckets of hot tar to a coworker. Employee #1 was taking another bucket of tar to the hoist when he tripped on pieces of scrap lumber. The hot tar in the bucket spilled, splashing his face, cheek, ear, and hand. Employee #1 suffered burns to the right side of his face and hand. A coworker drove him to Kaiser Hospital.
