Steelworker Injures Head in Fall from Beam

On June 7, 2005, Employee #1 was a steel erector working for Teague Construction, connecting a 14-inch steel girder beam to existing structure at a construction site. As he was cooning the beam, he lost his balance and fell. ("Cooning" is a technique of moving along a girder while straddling it.) He fell 16 feet and landed on a concrete floor. He sustained bruises, contusions, and abrasions. Emergency medical services were called. The Roseville Fire Department provided first aid at the scene. Employee #1 was transported to Sutter Roseville Hospital and treated for head trauma. The company owner was working with the Employee #1 at the time of the accident and witnessed the fall.
