Employee's leg fractured when pinned between two steel coils

At approximately 8:20 p.m. on March 19, 2003, Employee #1, a warehouseman and crane operator, was placing a 13,000-pound steel coil onto a wood saddle storage pallet. He was using a certified Demag, Model Number 115, overhead pendant controlled hoist. As the steel coil seated in the pallet it shifted toward an adjacent coil and pinned his right leg between the two coils. He was hospitalized with a fractured leg.
