Employee injures right arm when caught by saw blade

At approximately 9:45 a.m. on December 20, 2002, Employee #1 was working for Thor California, a manufacturer of recreational vehicles. The employee was cutting wood using a Miter Cut-Off Saw, Serial Number 4904, Model Number M225R. When the employee started work at 6:00 a.m., he proceeded to the cabinet shop located in Plant Number 2, north wall, next to door Number 6 to pull the saw down to cut a piece of 2 ft. by 2 ft. wood. The guard on the saw was not working properly, so. Employee #1 had to manually lift the guard up so he could cut the wood. During this process, his loose long sleeve shirt came into contact with the blade of the miter saw. Employee #1 received severe lacerations to his right arm and tendon damage, and was hospitalized for two days.
