Employee Fractures Leg in Fall from Scaffold

At about 2:20 p.m. on July 31, 2006, Employee #1, exterior painter, was struck by an unsecured scaffold when it fell over. Employee #1 fell 19.5 ft to the pavement and fractured his leg. He was hospitalized. The unsecured metal frame scaffold, used to access the building exterior walls during windy conditions, was 5 ft wide, about 50 ft long, and over 23 ft high. The employer did not secure the scaffold that exceeded three times the base dimension, nor provided any subsequent horizontal or vertical wall ties.
