Employee injured by garbage truck packer

At approximately 12:15 p.m. on February 22, 2002, Employee #1, engaged in refuse collection and disposal, was packing refuse into a garbage truck. The employee stated that there was a box that did not fit into the packer so he climbed onto the top of the truck. The packer started to operate and the employee's foot was crushed between the stationary and moving part of the truck. The employee suffered fractured toes and was admitted to Community Memorial Hospital where he received surgery. The equipment was not locked out during the activity.
