Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 201081619
Event: 03/03/1999
Employee injured in fall from tree

At approximately 8:53 a.m. on March 3, 1999, Employee #1, working for a tree service company, fell approximately 75 feet. Although Employee #1 previously had worked for the employer for several years, the day of accident was Employee #1's first day on the job since that time. Employee #1 had gone to the site to cut down a tree into rounds. The employee climbed the tree with his tree saddle, belt, and ropes. He had been working for about 1.5 hours when he stepped back after a cut and fell approximately 75 feet. Employee #1 fell into the brush that had not yet been cleared. It is unclear as to why the employee stepped or fell back when he wasn't tied off. The employer stated that he had been at the site and Employee #1 had been tied off prior to the fall. Employee #1 was hospitalized for approximately three days with a fractured hip.
