Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 201081338
Event: 08/15/1998
Employee injured when leg run over by trailer

At 11:30 a.m. on August 15, 1998, a serious accident occurred to a farm laborer. Employee #1 had been harvesting peaches that morning and then moved to a field nearby to harvest another variety of peaches. The crew boss moved the van with the trailer full of ladders onto a roadway between the two orchards. Employees were getting their ladders off the trailer when the grower's employee drove up parallel to the van and ladder trailer. Employee #1 was removing his ladder from the trailer when the grower's employee got back in the truck and drove forward. At that time, Employee #1 took a step back, catching his leg with the tire of the trailer that the grower's employee was pulling, causing his leg to get run over by the tire. Employee #1 was taken to Selma Hospital for treatment of multiple fractures to his left leg and he was released the following day. Employee #1 stated he was trained by the contractor on removing ladders from the trailer.
