Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 201033180
Event: 06/15/2000
Employee injured in fall from workstand platform

At approximately 6:00 a.m. on June 15, 2000, Employee #1, a painter working for an aircraft manufacturer, was on a workstand platform near the rear of an engine. The platform had sliders to narrow the gaps between it and the body of the plane. Employee #1 had been stripping masking paper from the engine by pulling it while walking backward on the platform. Some of the sliders had not been fully extended, and he fell 5 ft 6 in. through a gap between the platform and the aircraft's pod to the floor. Employee #1 suffered a concussion and a fractured shoulder, for which he was hospitalized.
