Employee killed in trench cave-in

On February 2, 1998, Employee #1 was working in an 8 to 10 ft deep trench that had been dug in type C soil. A large portion of the excavation caved in, completely burying him in an upright position. There were no witnesses to the accident. Workers for another subcontractor saw Employee #1 in the trench and initiated rescue operations. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
