Employee's finger amputated by blade

At 10:30 a.m. on December 4, 1988, Employee #1 was using an unguarded angle cutting section of a type 210-16 Peddinghaus Ironworker to cut a 1 1/2 in. piece of 1 ft 2 in. by 1 ft 2 in. angle stock. He was using his right hand to hold the piece to be cut so that it would not fall. As he pulled the operating lever with his left hand, the cutting blade with stripper plate came down on his right index finger, amputating the tip. He was hospitalized.
