Accident Investigation Summary
Summary Nr: 132961.015 Event: 01/30/2021Employee With Covid-19 Infection Dies
An employee had worked as a Corrections Officer for a State prison in the Observ ation Tower. The employee's main duty was to observe and ensure the safety of pe rsonnel and inmates in the prison yard. The employee worked the entire shift in the tower which is isolated from coworkers and others. The employee has no need to leave his work area since it is equipped with a toilet and a sink. The emplo yer did not know when the employee tested positive for COVID-19, but the employe r was notified of the employee's positive test on December 29, 2020. The employ ee last worked on December 18, 2020. On January 4, 2021, the employee was hospi talized. At 11:17 a.m. on January 30, 2021, he died. Information regarding engi neering, administrative and personal protective equipment controls for COVID-19 are not included in the narrative.
