Investigation Summary

On November 18, 2020, an employee who had worked as a Registered Nurse at a skilled nursing facility died from respiratory distress related to COVID-19. The employee had been working in a Long Term Care part of the facility. The employee worked around Nursing Assistants, other Registered Nurses and residents in the section he was worked. There was a recent outbreak of COVID-19 amongst staff and residents within the facility. On November 8, 2020, the employee was tested but was not experiencing any COVID-19 related symptoms. On November 10, 2020, the employee was tested a second time and on November 13, 2020, the employee received a positive test result. The employee was sent home to quarantine. The employee developed symptoms while at home, which progressed. On the evening of November 17, 2020, the employee, was hospitalized. Information regarding engineering, administrative and personal protective equipment controls for COVID-19 are not included in the narrative.
