Accident Investigation Summary
Summary Nr: 130273.015 Event: 10/08/2020Employee With Covid-19 Infection Dies
An employee was working for a nationwide chain of discount department stores. On October 6, 2020, his employer ordered him to enter a fourteen-day quarantine. T he employee was staying at home, sleeping and not working. On the morning of Oct ober 8, 2020, he was having difficulty breathing. His spouse called for an ambul ance at 2:40 a.m. At about 2:45, the employee died in the ambulance on the way t o the medical center. When the employee arrived at the hospital, he tested posit ive for COVID-19. His death was attributed to COVID-19 with complications, and t he existence of a pre-existing medical conditions, specifically diabetes and hyp ertension. The airborne virus, COVID-19, was found in his system. He died from b reathing problems that were also associated with the illness. The postmortem rep ort gave the cause of death as acute respiratory distress syndrome due to a COVI D-19 infection, and diabetes and hypertension.
