Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 131160.015
Event: 09/04/2020
Four employees with COVID-19 infection are hospitalized

Four employees were working for a poultry hatchery. Employee #1 worked as a general office clerk. She worked as a bookkeeping, auditing, or general accounting clerk. She contracted COVID-19 and was admitted to a hospital on February 13, 2021. She was hospitalized just before midnight, and she was released the following day, February 14, 2021, just after noon. She was hospitalized for twelve and a half hours, less than 24 hours. She reported to her employer that she was infected by her daughter. This incident was not work-related and thus not reportable. Employee #2 worked night shift as a general laborer in the palletizing area. He worked alone much of the time or with a limited night crew. He had limited contact with others on his shift. He became ill with COVID-19 on November 23, 2020, and he was admitted to the hospital that same day. It was also his last day of work. He was hospitalized from November 23, 2020, through November 23, 2020, four days. He believed he contacted COVID-19 at work, but he had no evidence of this. He stated that he didn't know for sure how he got it. As of March 2021, he was still out from work because of complications due to diabetes. Employee #3 worked as a general laborer on the cook side in packaging. On September 2, 2020, she felt ill at work and went home feeling bad. She was cold, and her bones ached. She left work at her normal time. The following day, she called her employer, who told her to get tested for COVID-19. The test came back positive on September 4, 2020, and she was hospitalized that same day. She was not sure how she was infected, but she denied getting COVID-19 from a family member. She said that she was hospitalized for ten days, but the hospital records showed a hospitalization of four days. She said that she was on oxygen for two months and off work for three months. Employee #4 worked as a laborer. He was hospitalized, but there was no further information provided about him.
