Investigation Summary
At approximately 8:00 p.m. on July 10, 2019, an employee was clearing an obstruction from one of the planer cutting heads. The employee started the planer machine after clearing an obstruction and noticed one of the cutting heads was not starting. Then the employee removed the guard and reached into the machine, without locking the machine out, and the employee's right hand was sucked up by the blower and cut by the planer's cutting head. The employee amputated part of the right index and middle finger. The employee was treated but was not hospitalized.
