Employee amputates fingertip when coworker cycles machine

At 10:00 p.m. on May 9, 2019, an employee was working on a food packaging line inserting wrapped meals coming off the Pioneer Campbell Wrapper into packaging boxes. The line was running a product that caused the trays to keep jamming on the conveyor at the film cutter. The employee was positioned next to the outfeed of the wrapper and a coworker was was positioned next to the infeed next to the power controls. When the wrapper became jammed the coworker pushed the stop button and the employee reached beyond the point of operation guard to pull the jammed tray forward. As the employee reached in to clear the tray at the cutter, the coworker energized the wrapper. The employee's left middle finger was amputated and was hospitalized for treatment.
