Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 171057771
Event: 06/30/1999
Employee injured in fall when platform gives way

Employee #1 was trying to set hip joint trusses on a wall ridge plate when he lost his balance. He tried to stop himself from falling by jumping approximately 7 ft onto a plank platform that was supported by the structure's framed walls, which were 15 ft apart, and by a 2 by 4 that was bracing up the center. The impact of the jump caused the platform to give way. Employee #1 fell 18 ft onto a wood floor, fracturing both of his arms. He was not using any form of fall protection.
