Employee's fingers amputated when caught between press rolls

At 6:40 p.m., Employee #1 was kneeling to wipe down the end of a catwalk at Unit #4 of a Harris M-1000 printing press. He had a dry shop towel in his left hand and a wet shop towel in his right hand. Employee #1 was holding onto the adjustment for balance when he slipped and the dry rag became caught in a roller, pulling his left hand fingers between two rollers. He sustained serious injuries to his index, middle, and ring fingers, which later had to be surgically amputated. Wiping down the catwalk was a routine, end-of-the-day housekeeping task because of residue from the cleaning solution used to clean the blankets and roller assemblies at the end of a print job.
