Employee's finger amputated in dropper fan

At approximately 10:15 a.m. on August 25, 1995, Employee #1, of West Coast Beet Seed, was running a seed cleaner when the vacuum dropper became plugged. He shut off the dropper and lift but did not shut off the dropper and fan. Employee #1 reached into the dropper to remove the plug and made contact with the fan, cutting off his right middle finger. Employee #1 was transported to Salem Memorial, where finger reattachment was unsuccessful.
