Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 201800414
Event: 10/10/2005
Employee Is Injured Cutting Cultured Marble with Table Saw

At approximately 7:30 a.m., on October 10, 2005, Employee #1 was operating a table saw in the Solid Surface Department of Vermax, Incorporated, doing business as Century Cast Products. He was operating the table saw to cut a cultured marble product known as Marlux. The Marlux measured 30 in. to 40 in. long, and 5 in. to 6 in. wide. With his right hand, he pushed the Marlux through the cut using a scrap piece of Corian as a push stick. He used his gloved left hand to guide the Marlux sideways against the fence and down towards the table. Just before finishing the Marlux cut, his left hand inadvertently made contact with the table saw blade. The employee was treated at the Industrial Care Clinic, then at the Pomona Valley Hospital for lacerations and fractures to multiple fingers of his left hand.
