Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 201168986
Event: 07/24/2007
Employee Sustains Minor Chest Injuries When Struck by Tube

At approximately 1:30 p.m. on July 24, 2007, Employee #1 was polishing a stainless steel tube. The tube, 36-in. long and 1.5-in. in diameter, was on a buffing machine in a polishing area. The employee was wearing an apron, chest protector vest, gloves, face shield, and half-face respirator. The apron was blown into the buffing wheel by a portable fan near-by. He tried to release himself by pulling/breaking the apron straps. While pulling the strap, he released one end of the tube, which caused the tube to swing towards him and strike him in the chest. He was taken to Gardena Memorial Hospital. Employee #1 sustained some bruises to his chest but was not hospitalized.
