Employee's Thumb Is Amputated by Chain Conveyor

On November 10, 2009, Employee #1, with a temporary personnel staffing service, was monitoring an automatic palletizing machine. While the machine was staging a layer of boxes of oranges, one of the boxes became damaged. When Employee #1 stood on the staging area platform to repair the box, he slipped. While trying to catch himself, his right thumb became caught between the chain & sprocket. Employee #1 was hospitalized at Valley Industrial Medical Office for an amputation of the thumb.
