Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 201168168
Event: 10/30/2006
Worker Falls on Beam, Suffering Severe Internal Injuries

At 11:00 a.m. on October 30, 2006, a construction worker (head framer) was employed by Brian Williams Construction Inc., a framing contractor. The head framer worked without wearing his personal fall arrest system harness, as he moved tools from one location to another on a sloped roof, approximately 25 to 28 feet above ground level. He lost his balance as he grabbed for a Bosch skill saw that slipped down the roof. The framer lost his balance and fell onto an exposed vertical I-beam protruding from the ground. The employee was hospitalized having sustained severe injuries that included a severed liver, exposure of the large intestine, a broken diaphragm, and two broken ribs.
