Employee Amputates Finger in Machine

At approximately 9:30 a.m. on August 21, 2008, an employee, a cutter, was operating a rolling and binding machine. She inadvertently grabbed on the machine for an unknown reason and on so doing, her left hand came into contact with the chain drive of the rolling/binding machines. The employee screamed and a coworker immediately came to her aid by manually turning off the equipment and removed her hand. The employee fainted and was awaken lying on a table nearby. The employee was attended by the clinic nurse by cleaning her hand and had it bandaged. She was then transported to a nearby hospital for treatment; however, the attending physician was not able to reattach the part of the finger that got severed because the tissue had died. The employee then authorized the physician to have it amputated at the first joint. The employee was not hospitalized.
