Employee's finger lacerated in sealing machine

At approximately 9:15 a.m. on October 5, 1998, Employee #1, of Mission Foods, was working on corn package sealing machine #15254 when his left middle finger became caught in the pinch point of a sprocket wheel. He suffered a laceration that was initially treated by the company's nurse; he was later transported to a nearby medical clinic for further treatment. There were no protective plates or guards at the end of the machine where the pinch points were located.
