Employee injured when struck by hedge trimmer

At approximately 9:45 a.m. on May 3, 1998, Employee #1 and coworkers were tasked to cut and clear the shrubs and bushes along a freeway exit to make the roadway more visible to motorists. They set up the road closure, checked their equipment, and started cutting the hedges and bushes. Employee #1 was using a Double-Edge Trimmer and had a coworker assisting him by pushing back the hedges he cut. Employee #1 came to a slope on the ground and lost his footing. He slipped and fell forward striking the hedge trimmer. Employee #1 sustained lacerations on his left hand and on his chin and was taken to the hospital.
