Employee amputates finger while using skill saw

At approximately 8:00 a.m. on July 9, 2003, an employee of California Department of Corrections was cutting the bottom portion of a rafter end with a Skill saw, Model Number 77. The saw kicked back and severely cut three fingers on his left hand. The employee was standing on the second step of a 4 foot step ladder, while cutting. Also, the saw had the lug lift on the lower guard missing. The lower guard was operating properly. The employee was hospitalized and treated for laceration.
