Employee injures fingertip in rotating valve

On July 9, 2003, Employee #1, a sanitation department worker, was cleaning a Pack West Inline Piston Filler. The cleaning of the filler completed the flushing process. The process was still cycling when Employee #1 attempted to clear an obstruction from pipe Number 2 of the hopper. Employee #1 came in contact with the rotating switching valve and sustained amputation of his fingertip. Employee #1 was hospitalized.
