Employee hospitalized for treatment of amputated finger

At approximately 4:30 p.m. on January 14, 2003, an employee was operating a Doboy wrapping Machine Number "b". As he was working, he noticed a problem with the wrapper on Machine "d". He was examining the problem when he placed his hand over the wrapper so that he could feel the position of the product underneath, as it traveled on the conveyor. The employee became distracted when someone called out his name, and when he looked up, his hand accidentally contacted the reciprocating blade that cut his fingers. The Doboy wrapping Machine Number "d" was in operation while the point of operation guard was not in its proper position. The employee amputated his right index and middle fingers and was transported to USC medical center for emergency treatment.
