Investigation Summary
The accident occurred on April 20, 2001. The employer is involved in the extrusion and fabrication of aluminum. The machine involved in the incident was a roller bender. The roller bender has rolls that bend aluminum to a certain radius. According to Employee #1, he was in the process of cleaning a roll of the roller bender, while the machine was on. He was using both hands, one on top of the other, moving the sand paper side to side on one of the rolls of the roller bender. As he was doing this, his finger touched the top roll and it sucked both hands inside the machine. Employee #1 was transported to St. Francis Occupational Health and was hospitalized.
