Employee injured when foot lacerated by high pressure washer

At 9:35 a.m. on March 27, 2002, Employee #1 of Calpi Inc. and his supervisor were at Zuku Road in Shafter, California, helping clean piping and flanges at GAF, a plant that manufactures fiberglass matting for roofing. Employee #1 was using a high pressure washer at 5,000 psi. While using the washer and wand, Employee #1 lost his footing and the wand went across his right foot. Employee #1 sustained severe lacerations to the upper toes of his right foot. Emergency personnel were called, and Employee #1 was transported to Mercy Hospital and later to Memorial Hospital in Bakersfield, where he was admitted for treatment.
