Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 201155504
Event: 09/07/2001
Employee injured when he fell from truck

At approximately 9:15 a.m. on September 7, 2001, an employee operating a Amrep Side Loader Refuse Truck #130 picking up trash from single family homes, noticed that a container had slipped off the grabbers and fell into the hopper of the truck. He shut off the pump control switch that controls the hydraulic power to operate the body components. The employee then opened his door and proceeded to climb on the side of the truck to the point where he could reach in and retrieve the empty container. About halfway to the container his left hand slipped, he lost his balance and fell about 6 feet 2 inches onto the ground, landing on his left arm and hip. The employee was unable to get up to reach his radio that was in the cab of the truck. Using his personal cell phone, the employee called the refuse dispatcher and she called paramedics. He was hospitalized for his injuries at St. Bernadine's Hospital.
