Employee burned by molten metal

At 7:30 a.m. on March 6, 1995, Employee #1 was welding a custom-built motor stand for a large steel roller. As he was puddling the steel wire near the edge of the 1 in. thick steel plate, molten metal rolled off the plate onto his cotton denims, then ran down the side of his ankle and into his work boots. He sustained burns that required hospitalization. Employee #1, an experienced welder, was wearing a welding hood, steel-toed boots and gloves. The employer was cited for a violation of T8CCR 3383(a) because the employee was not utilizing the available appropriate body protection (welding leggings).
