Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 202448742
Event: 02/13/2008
Employee Injured by Falling Part on Amusement Ride

Some employees were assembling part of a Zamperla Mini-Jet amusement ride in a travel configuration so that it could be transported over the road. (The employee worked for a company that provides amusement rides for fairs and other events. He was working at a facility for maintaining and servicing the rides.) An employee pulled a pin from a support bracket, which released the back support rack. The rack fell and struck another employee, causing internal and spinal injuries. The employee was hospitalized as an inpatient for surgery and treatment for 29 days. The injured employee was a regular seasonal, employee, who had been rehired at the end of January 2008 as a ride operator. His duties included erecting and operating the rides, as well as packing the ride for transport.
